Text-based Web Games – What Are They?

Tell me about text based rpg games and why are they so darn addictive? Long before the average PC had any sort of graphical capabilities, text based rpg games were run on university LANs over extremely slow dial-up connections. Commonly known as multi user dungeons (MUDs), many of these text-based rpg games have been altered to run online using a MUD client, or most recently, a web browser. A poor internet connection has very little affect on game play, and can also handle large numbers of players, often referred to as MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). This is largely due to the fact that most text based web games have very few graphics. A hidden bonus to text based games is the ability to play them on, pretty much, any computer connected to the Internet, due to their low system requirements compared to graphical games. Many serious gamers are now playing them on modern handheld gadgets and mobile phones. Every text-based game worth its salt must have the power to create a virtual character, improve their skills, weapons, items, status etc, and complete tasks in the game. With so much competition, expectations are much higher and developing a successful text based game requires time, effort and constant feature updates. Good text MMORPGs are addictive and keep players loyal for months, and sometimes, years. Facebook saw the appeal in text based browser games and has recently launched Farmville, Mafia Wars and Frontierville, created by Zynga. Although much more graphical than traditional text-based RPGs, under the bonnet, they are really no different to most other text based web games. Why not start with Torn, Mafia Wars, Frontierville or many others, if you want to give text based games a try.

Audience of Legend of the Seeker Continues Organizing to Find New Home for TV Hero

Craig Horner rose to international stardom in Legend of the Seeker.Fans of Legend of the Seeker will not yet give up. The fan community’s latest ideas bent on resurrecting the Seeker, they have chosen the People’s Choice Awards to be the latest platform to revive interest in the show. This campaign seems reasonable yet Seeker fandom has established a solid campaign so far.

Produced by the Raimi/Tapert team, the Seeker wasn’t sunk through insufficient ratings but rather for the Tribune Company’s bankruptcy. Owning a full third of Seeker audience, Tribune wiped out 800,000 viewers. The drop in viewers was a mortal blow and the Seeker never recovered from the loss. After making a weak attempt to recruit the SyFy network the ABC company left too. Audience members were humiliated. The ever resourceful fans had donated more than 20,000 dollars on ads in Variety and Hollywood Reporter. Fan campaign videos made their way on to YouTube.

Despite some defections fan campaign organizers set in for the long haul and put together still more activities. Seeker fans are showing they can be flexible. They’re not giving up.

Major LoTS fansites are keeping fan efforts to save the show alive. To aid fan resolutions scifi publicity specialists at Xenite.Org announced Operation LOTS More. Distributing press releases similar to Fans of Legend of the Seeker Organize to Vote in People’s Choice Awards and Buy 2nd Season DvDs, the Xenite.Org publicity storm keeps the Seeker visible in the news. And across the blogosphere articles like DVD Gives Fans Chance to Save ‘Legend of the Seeker’ signal a supporting interest among entertainment writers. Not all the stories owe something to Operation LOTS More. Operation LOTS More is only supporting what occurs naturally on other sites.

ABC and Disney may have given up the field but 2-1/2 million Seeker watchers have been waiting to see the third season of their show. Signs indicate Seeker fans aren’t going away so conceivably they will be granted their dream. Since all the contracts have expired author Terry Goodkind may find himself in a good position to find another round. Legend of the Seeker was inspired by his Sword of Truth books. As a hopeful fan has stated: “There are two-point-five million reasons to do this show.”
